Open Letter Regarding Medical Provision in Western Valley

At the Annual Meeting of the Council in May 2026, the Council passed resolution to send a letter to our MP, District Council, County Council, and the Developers regarding medical provision throughout Western Valley.  The full text of the letter can be found below.

RE: Urgent Decision Required on Healthcare Provision Funding for Great Western Park and Valley Park

On behalf of the Western Valley Parish Council, I am writing regarding the long-outstanding issue of healthcare provision for the communities of Great Western Park and Valley Park within the Vale of White Horse district.

These developments have now been under construction and occupied for well over a decade, with the occupancy of Valley Park growing almost daily.  During this period, thousands of residents have moved into the area, yet the healthcare infrastructure intended to support this population growth has still not materialised.  Residents continue to experience significant pressure on local GP services, and the originally identified healthcare site remains unbuilt many years after first occupancy began.

The Parish Council understands that the trigger point for the developer’s next healthcare contribution payment is now approaching.  Given the length of time already elapsed, we believe it is imperative that a clear and urgent decision is made regarding the future of these funds and the delivery of healthcare infrastructure for the area.

We therefore ask Oxfordshire County Council, Vale of White Horse District Council, and our local Member of Parliament to work together urgently with all relevant stakeholders to:

  • confirm the current status of the proposed healthcare facility;
  • clarify whether the planned building project will proceed within a realistic and deliverable timeframe; and
  • if delivery of the original facility is no longer viable, ensure that the developer healthcare contributions are redirected without delay toward expansion, redevelopment, or provision at the existing surgery site or another suitable local healthcare solution.

Residents of Great Western Park and Valley Park have waited many years for the healthcare provision that was expected to accompany these developments. It is essential that the available funding is now used decisively and transparently to secure meaningful healthcare capacity for the community.

We would welcome a written response outlining the intended next steps and anticipated timescales for decision-making and delivery.

Yours Faithfully,

Clerk to the Council

For and on behalf of Western Valley Parish Council.
